The Dance Foundation is a registered non-profit institution,  which helps to propagate and promote Bharatanatyam, a South Indian classical dance form through performances, workshops and lecture demonstrations.  The Foundation presents Classical programs that conform to high standards of excellence in the art form.   

The Foundation has been active in the San Francisco Bay area by staging performances and workshops.  
Guru Nirupama Vaidhyanathan is the lead dancer/ choreographer  and is also the President of the Foundation
directing its artistic and administrative duties.  The dancers of the Foundation are students of the Sankalpa School of Dance, a registered teaching institution. 

  
Awards:

July 2003 - 'Shaping California: Immigrant Dancers and their Voices'.

The California Council for the Humanities has awarded the Sankalpa Dance Foundation a grant to record the experiences of Indian-American classical dancers in the state of California.
